Sumbawa
Sumbawa is another island in Nusa Tenggara Barat that has its own unique traditional clothing. The traditional clothing of Sumbawa is influenced by the Islamic culture and is more modest compared to the Sasak traditional clothing.
The women’s traditional clothing in Sumbawa consists of a long-sleeved blouse called “baju kurung” and a sarong. The baju kurung is usually made of cotton or silk and is often adorned with delicate embroidery. The sarong worn by Sumbawa women is made of woven fabric and is less decorative compared to the Sasak sarong. It is usually worn in a simple, folded style.
The men’s traditional clothing in Sumbawa is called “baju koko.” It is a long-sleeved shirt made of cotton or silk. The baju koko is often worn with a sarong and a headscarf called “peci.” The peci is a traditional Islamic cap that is commonly worn by men in Indonesia.
